Belize is a country on the east coast of Central America, with Caribbean shores to the east and dense jungle to the west. Off its shores, Belize's enormous Barrier Reef, with hundreds of low-lying islands called cayes, is home to abundant marine life. Belize's jungle areas are home to Mayan ruins, such as the Caracol, known for its elevated pyramid; Lamanai, next to a lagoon; and Altún Ha, very close to the capital city of Belize.
